Love On Hold

Did I stare too hard at the truth?
Or blink and miss the obvious
When all I see are shapes of your lips
Gazing intently at your unkempt hair
How could something so flawed feel as perfect as this?

Did she know you like I know you?
In her mind does she trace
Those dimples on your face
And when she laid in your arms
Was she content just to be in your embrace?

All I’ve ever wanted was you
Everyone since has been second best
I’ve drowned for years on the emotions I suppress
I’ve loved you for as long as I can remember
While she couldn’t care any less

My heart is on hold and it seems
You’d prefer to keep me standing in line
Praying for history to rewind
But I can’t take living at your arms length
Then end up being only left behind

This pending love may wear out soon
As the anticipation fades to defeat instead
Once these tears have all been shed
And I’ll leave you wondering why you choose
The girl who broke your heart over the girl you misled
