Delayed Performance at the Clarion Inn

who am i?
and who was i to think
i've changed?
an outcast from the rest
few feet away
but worlds apart
sitting in an armchair, an awkward position
with my head resting on my arms
singing my favorite Rolling Stones tune
dressed in my fine tuxedo
"please, don't let my miniscule voice
interrupt your cell phone conversation
and social gathering"
set to perform
but a delay holds me here alone
and strangles the life out of me

finally, we perform
for who? i don't know
it doesn't matter
i love to perform
it helps me escape
my otherwise bleak persona
for a while
i am the entertainer
at least, for now
