choking back tears,
saying goodbye
lingering hug,
i will not cry.
biting my lip,
don't say a word
walking away
so my sobs can't be heard.
falsified laughter,
wavering grin
jaw muscles aching,
screaming within.
driving away,
with one backward glance
already forgotten,
i don't stand a chance.
whispered "i love you's",
to memories that stain
no more goodbyes,
i choke on the pain.
