high hopes

well perhaps tonight
i can fold your fright away
and declare that the stars are i
all the riches and the fame

we can never be the same

so now you'll leave me
just wave our child goodbye
all this time is just fantasy
and i guess i'll just ask reality:

what's left here, was it crafted for me?
have you made a cast?
when i was born, was i handed destiny?

the perfect marriage
with a perfect hand to fit my ring

but i don't have gold
or silver pillars
or my face on magazines
and i can't hand you
the gucci covers
the silk or the magnum steam

but simple, honest longing
a need to fill your eyes
with all the hope of TV shows
not a drama
but a happy ending
a circle void of brutal greed
