He tries to talk normally, but his saddened voice gives him away He'll stare into your eyes & you can't help but feel his pain His tender heart is marred with scars of gray And he crumbles into himself, knowing his hurt is here to stay
If only I could help him Take his hand and lead him to a day of peace If only I could give him The beauty he always wished to have seen
He doesn't let anyone come too close to him His whole life was one jumbled confusional blur And if you were to just ever speak to him He would look away with tears in his eyes and reply in a whisper
If only I could show him That this isn't how life should be If only I could make him Believe in the love he so very needs
So abused and so hurt as a child Windowless walls are all he stares at day and night Picking up his pen to write his suicide letter And putting it down again in too much fright
If only he could give me A moment to listen & understand If only he could trust me But he's too scared to take the chance
So I stand by watching as he slowly walks away And my mind longs to tell him how much I care about his dreams So I take a step toward him & he stiffens at my sound And I cry silently with him, realizing it never was meant to be
If only he could try to Stop the trembling of his sorrowful voice If only he could believe in Realizing he has another choice
But he's filled with a life of lonliness And I can still see the physical bruises on his face Fear overwhelms him with every twist and turn By repeatedly putting himself down in disgrace
If only I could cry with him So he won't be filled with such pain If only I could love him Maybe then he could erase this jagged stain
