Beneath the Surface

You came over, but not to say goodbye
You came to pack up your childhood
And you won't even look me in the eye
You turn to me, you laugh, I smile
And everythings ok, for a little while
I picture you, painted perfect
Behind hair dye, beneath the surface
I see a glimpse, your dreams, your fear
But your trapped in a bubble and I can't get near
He put a ring on your finger
And now whats left to linger
On is slowly melting, finally gone
Your all grown up, your clothes are new
You don't remember how it feels to lose
So therefore you are unable to relate
To how I'm feeling, no way to escape
What's already done...
I see you now, 18 years old
A child playing a grown up role
I wish to reach out, pull away your mask
Take your hand, and go back
Play again, maybe you'll remember
Go through the months, reach December
We've loved and lost, we've shared it all
We've flown up high and taken the fall
I've told you secrets, I could never tell
You've walked me through this living hell
I see your smile, I wish it were real
I long for words to say how I feel
I watch you turn, you hug me close
You promised to walk me down foreign roads
But people change and so do plans
All is destroyed in the Fates' hands
I picture you, painted perfect
Behind it all, beneath the surface
