As White Geraniums Fall

As white geraniums fall
skin roams skin
childhood innocence
not-so-innocent
disallusionment
settles like eyelids
on once alert
now hooded eyes.
as breath meets breath
the stars look on
and realization strikes like time run out.
Teeth must till gleam
in happy recognition
while stomach churns
in denial
Feet must still stumble
on in the dirt of
my own choice.
while hands stop
shaking and grip tighter.
