Child

don’t you wish you were a child?
y o u n g l a u g h i n g f r e e
arms always around us
sheilding us from the dirty world
slowly the arms slip
inevitably they will lose their hold
we rise from our milk and cookies
finding nothing familiar
strangers in a strange world
we grow to accept this place
but within we yearn
longing
for running carefree
g i g g l i n g
not caring what he thinks
what she’ll say
what they’ll see
inside we all want to be
there again
safe in protecting arms
happily oblivious
of the storm raging outside
I am a child inside.
