The room keeping me hidden from the sun is colored light green and most of the paint is peeling revealing the white undercoat. I lay on the bed alone in the darkness, interrupted only by the few rays of light that managed to get past the tightly drawn shades. I wonder where I am. I don’t even know why I’m here, in this run down hotel in a small town whose name I couldn’t think of. It’s been such a long time since I’ve known where I’ve been going. For eons I’ve been wandering from place to place, never really caring about anything. At one time I did care about my life, but now that I have lived for an eternity, mortality isn’t a concern for me and I seem to have lost the ability to care. So I lay in this room, hiding from the son, hiding from my savior. Why do I keep calling him that? He hasn’t been my savior for such a long time. But you probably don’t understand what I’m talking about so I’ll start at the beginning, at a time of hope and brightness…
Before the time of Eden when the world was fresh and new, God was trying to create beings to keep him company and to worship him and in his nativity he experimented with life and death. His first batch were slow, dimwitted creations with no free thought, only thoughts placed in their minds from their creator. They could not evolve from this state of blind stupidity, but God wanted a creature that could think and decide without his help. So God ignored and cast out his first experiment and set to work on working on his second try…
Night awakens my body, I’m forced to leave my thoughts and go embrace the night. I leave the room and start to fly through the trees behind the hotel. The hunger starts to build within my stomach and I wonder what tasty morsel I will consume tonight. Will I feed on a tasty virgin? Maybe, maybe not it’s getting so hard to find virgins nowadays its horrible; they choose to have sex at such a young age. Ask any vampire and they’ll tell you that virgin’s blood is better because its purer, the closest to God a vampire can get. And once God has touched you, you always want more. Damn these humans, most don’t realize how close they could be with him. But with his final experiments he wanted them to choose to accept him but we weren’t given a choice. My stomach aches and my mind is ripped back to reality, blood lust rules my thoughts now, I feel like an animal unable to control my emotions anymore. I see a shimmer of light and am pleased to discover a young teenage girl, waiting by the side of her broken down car. She seemed distressed and upset because her cell phone wasn’t getting service out here in the country. I love the country; there is such an untouched mystery that surrounds it. I was sure that I would be alone with her because the road was rarely used, I knew because the road intersects my favorite hunting grounds. Usually I would usually find a drunken hunter, or a homeless bum and that will suffice. Sometimes I would walk through the town and find my dinner wandering the streets beside me. But I rarely did that because it brought to much suspicion and I do not relish the thought of death, I just don’t see the point in life. Sometimes I don’t even understand what I’m talking about, it’s probably due to the thirst for blood making my mind weak and fuzzy. I descend to the ground a little ways back so that she will not think that I came out of nowhere. I don’t want her to run, its much more pleasant for her if she looks into my hypnotic eyes before I bite. So I walk up to her and she sees me, She says that she’s happy to see someone and she’s been outside all night. I look her over and she says if I’m willing to help her then she would b very thankful, as she seductively twirls her hair, damn not a virgin. But food is food and it’s not the run of the mill drunken hunter, which do I tire of. So I look deep into her eyes and she becomes overpowered within seconds. Making sure she is hypnotized is necessary, mainly because without it the victim would scream and struggle against me until he or she dies. Today that wouldn’t be a problem; I am much stronger than the average human, but back when humans were just an idea in God’s dense brain, there were many other creatures that he created that could’ve bested the strongest vampire. So as you can see the ability to subdue your prey was necessary, not so much today but we never lose abilities that have once been given to us. As I began to drink her blood, I felt all my senses come alive, her blood trickling down my throat. After I finished her off it was close to morning so I hid her body and flew back to my hotel, taking some money from her wallet, which I need to pay the hotel man to pay for the room. I don’t think she’ll need it. After I arrive at the hotel I go to the main lobby and pay the man for the room and return to my safe haven a little before dawn. Contrary to popular belief vampires don’t sleep during the day. Our bodies die as the sun rises, but our minds are very much active. That was one of our sacrifices that our kin made to be able to live, a half-life but still a life.
Back to my explanation that I was saying before the darkness so rudely interrupted me. After God’s first experiment failed he created us, the vampires, but we were greedy and had too much free thought. The first experiments couldn’t survive because their only thoughts were the ones placed by other people. At first we used them as slaves with our ability to hypnotize. However some of them broke free and there was a full blown war between us, the vampires and the first experiments the nameless ones we called them. However our sides won but not without a cost most of our kind were bitter afterward and treated God with disrespect and hatred. Soon God tired of us, and we were informed that he would soon be exterminated to make way for his newest creation, desperately we pleaded to him not to. But he didn’t listen, to busy creating humans. So we turned to the side of evil, there weren’t that many of us, only about thirty survived after the war between the nameless ones and us. We went to Lucifer and asked him to protect us; he was still new at being the devil so he wasn’t strong enough to protect us from God. But he had a way to hide us until he created humans and populated the earth with them. Lucifer did this for us happily without asking anything from us. He was pleased enough to help overrule God’s will. As the sun set on the last day that we were meant to live, Lucifer began weaving his spell, a very powerful, complicated spell, that would allow us to survive during the night and be hidden from God’s wraith during the day only if we would stay away from sunlight. I thought that Lucifer’s plan was the only way, I was so wrong. I wish I had never accepted his agreement, eternal pain, dieing and being reborn everyday…
The moon has risen again and my body goes through a rebirth so to speak. Though with this rebirth comes a cost, a hunger. Blood was what is required now not in the old days, I’ll tell you more when morning comes. So I leave my room to dance with the night once more, driven by hunger master of fears. Tonight I decide to go to the city, which will take me about twenty minutes flying, or I could travel to the in between place, also know as limbo then from there go wherever I choose. The latter choice is considerably quicker but would drain my energy and in a city you should be ready for everything, from vampire slayers to hotheaded new bloods looking to gain respect from killing an old blood. I’ll explain that later too. I decide not to go to limbo and choose flying. About ten minutes into my flight I feel the presence of a vampire near me, and I decide to not confront him or her. So I cover my aura and keep going on my way but I’m not quick enough and the other vampire has been alerted to my presence. Out of nowhere a figure appears in the air, it must be an old blood because new bloods can’t fly. So I stop and we look at each other, feeling each other’s strengths and looking for the others weakness. The figure is of a woman, with beautiful blonde hair clad in a black and indigo dress. Her eyes were violet which were intensified by her makeup. “Cynthi, its so nice to see you again” I said. “Well I thought you were dead, Kalil, that is what your going by these days isn’t it?” Cynthi replied. “Yes, we’ve got to keep up with the times or we will fade away,” I said. “I suppose,” she whispered to the wind, so soft I had to listen closely. “Well what brings you out on this dark night?” I asked. “You know as well as I, why I am out, or are you asking why am I here?” her lips curled into a crafty smile. I had missed those lips and the bluntness that came forth from them. Cynthi and I used to be lovers, for decades we pillaged and raped the world. Then one night I awoke and she was gone, I had mourned my loss for many years. “I’m her because I need you,” she continued to say, “ I didn’t believe those rumors that you were dead. I need to feel your touch again, I know that if we are together again we will be the most powerful old blood vampires to which the world would quake and fear. Do you remember what they called us eons ago?” she asked her question and answered not waiting for my response, “Belle Morte and her lover Ezekiel!” I hadn’t been called that name is such a long time. I almost whimpered with the thought of being a death God again. You see many of the mythological Gods of old were actually vampires. Well mainly the ones to do with night and death. But that was of the past and we can’t live in the past. “And so when your done you could just leave and expect me to be ok with that” I said as I felt my anger waxing and my tolerance waning. “Join me Kalil, there are new bloods all around, and all the old bloods are dieing off,” pleaded Cynthi, “our best chance is to stick together!” “No” I said, “ I will not be left again, not by the likes of you!” She looked thoroughly perplexed, here she thought I would take her back into my arms openly but now her illusion has been shattered. “Fine have it your way!” she screamed, then disappeared. I felt so drained, half of me wanted to take back and love her again, and the other half knew that I would be a fool if I did. Now I must kill, must drink blood. So I arrive at the city a little later than schedule, with all the time in the world to live you might ask why I even think of a schedule? Well night time only has so many hours and I must get back to the hotel before sunrise, or at least find a safe place to stay for the day. The city is huge and teeming with food and activities. Though most of the times you have to look over your shoulder to make sure there aren’t any vampire gangs following you. Mostly made up of young scared vampires that only with their group feel superior to all else. I’ve heard many stories of careless vampires that have been killed by these gangs, mostly to make a name for themselves, killing an old blood is very important to the new bloods. And with all this danger and possibility of death you might, why the hell am I out here? Well I suppose to feel like a kid again if that makes any sense. See danger and death are the only way to feel close to mortality and to keep me sane because if a vampire realizes that he or she might live for eternally, they tend to go insane. So I find this tasty morsel inside her room, I think she’s a virgin too! Also contrary to popular belief some vampires can go inside your home without an invitation, only the new bloods need and invitation. However there aren’t that many old bloods around so you barely hear of this little fact. I open her window, when will humans learn not to leave their windows open when they go to sleep? Anyways I go to her bed and sit down, I cover her mouth and gently shake her, and she wakes up and starts to scream. But with her mouth covered its nothing more than a hum. She her eyes look wide and frightful, but as they look into mine she begins to relax in my arms. I see the vain in her throat, and hear it call to me and I bend down and drink. I was right, she is a virgin I start to feel a little lightheaded. After I’m done I’m downright giddy, not a good thing to be in the city. So I leave her room and fly through the night. I let my mind roam free and I snap back to reality in the middle of a park. Not a good place to be, many gangs hang out here. That’s when I see him, a new blood, heading towards me. The one thing that people get right is how to kill a vampire. Decapitation, direct sunlight and stakes through the heart are all ways to kill us. This one had a sword, probably was really good at cutting off heads, I only had some daggers up my sleeves and a katana strapped to my back. It was usually invisible to the naked eye, which was good since I don’t want some nosey cop to hound me about having a sword. The new blood seemed to be in his late nine hundreds a baby by old blood standards. He looked young about in his late twenties, but appearances are deceiving when dealing with vampires. He was tall, had black haircut short and spiked up probably following today’s latest fad, dressed in dark green and black. So many of us wear black, I’ve always wondered why, for me the color black has always been appealing. But back to reality the new blood seemed to want a fight, and I’m not one to disappoint. I draw my daggers first; I don’t want to reveal all my tricks yet. As he draws near I get into fighting stance, I know about three different forms of karate, sword fighting, and I even know how to kick box. When one lives forever you have a lot of time to learn how to protect yourself. The new blood brought the sword down on me and I blocked with my daggers. He wasn’t that strong with a sword so I could probably finish him off without even getting my katana dirty. As he tries to cut my head off from the side, I duck and his sword gets stuck in a tree. Typical novice I think to myself as I cut with my daggers. One goes to the heart, it won’t kill him but it’ll weaken him significantly. The second cuts open his throat. Now in his weakened state he can either stay and die or run and get blood so he can live. I won’t give him an option. I pulled his sword out of the tree easily and sliced down as he started to crawl away. Dust appeared where his body had been and I leaned against the tree catching my breath. I feel so alive, my heart is racing and its like I was human again, my adrenaline flowing freely within my body. I use limbo to get back to my hotel because it’s going to be sun up soon and I still am not ready to die. I arrive at my hotel room about ten minutes before sunrise and take a quick shower and lie down on the bed to die again…
Now what was I talking about? Oh yes I was explaining Lucifer’s gift. After the sunset we were buried and Lucifer made God believe that we were dead, my death hurt but the rebirth was incredible. That night I rose from the ground with my brothers and sisters and we were overwhelmed by the night. After a few years of being the only ones around, we discovered a group of humans, it turns out one of them had eaten an apple and God got pissed off. Typical pigheaded God, but they still believed in him and when they prayed for rain, there was rain and when they prayed for food, crops would grow. One of our kind Syrus couldn’t control himself, upon hearing this. He couldn’t believe God would answer the humans’ and not our kinds’, out of jealously and hatred he killed a human and drank their blood, he did suffer from mental problem. He said human blood tasted great, the closest we would get to God’s love. So we all tried a little bit of human blood and once we all tried it we were hooked like junkies. We didn’t need food or water, just blood of humans. As more and more human began to populate the earth many of us were scared of being hunted down and destroyed so we created new bloods. New bloods are vampires that were made by old bloods and old bloods are the ones that were originally created by God. But we were smart and made it so the new bloods would be weaker than us. We didn’t want a full-blown war as we did against the nameless ones. New bloods can’t fly or travel to limbo they are weaker physically too. That is the main reason why they hate us old bloods, we made them inferior to us and they don’t think its fair. I am apart of the few old bloods that exist today; many of my kin have been killed. So that is how vampires came into existence not by disease or curse, but a failed experiment by God himself.
