Childhood Repercussion

Childhood Repercussion
(truth mingled with just one lie)

Stumble back 12 years and blink
find yourself face first
nose pressed
against the wall
corner portion only
trying to remember how to breathe as you scream
‘Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee...’
at the top of your lungs...
50 plus times or more all depending
on just how much you sinned...

Small children can tell big lies
and you are certainly no exception
sniffling nose and bruised cheeks with tears running down
you’ll soon learn that crying will never save you
and atonement
repentance, forgiveness for any sort of sin
can only be found
begging on your knees for something you never really wanted to swallow
or in droplets, beads, and bracelets of blood...

Years of right versus wrong
and father knows
(all the ways to please you)
best
leaves you naked
begging for something just short of death in this
pseudo, charmed by drugs and psycho-therapy only
reality
while you choke back the better part of sobs
(you learned from the best of them)
and smile...
always smile...
because mother never wanted a sad
afraid
three notches from being misguided
little boy...
