Hannah's Nearly Unintentional Little Gift

She’s got bright blue eyes
And a little rubber duck…

Chin length brown hair
Flipped under…

She prances
Prances in a sleeveless sundress
Yellow at that
While I moan and gripe
About the inconsistencies
Of my life
And tomorrows
That have yet to come
(If ever)

She blows the fuzz from stalks of
Dandelions
Then sneezes
Action…reaction
She sniffles
I yawn

“God bless”

A smile of thanks
Before she dashes off once more
To save the world with a perpetual smile
And chase the random mottled butterfly

What I wouldn’t give to be that happy
To be that small again
When I saw the world in 256 shades of color
Instead of my monotone hues;
Mixed blues and grays

Just this once…let
Up…down
Left and right
Be relatively simple terms
Instead of path
Directions
That will eventually lead
To bittersweet sins
And time-worn mistakes
