a purple, red, lilac rain

rain
drip-dropping
from an over swollen sky

you hop and prance
about
gray sweatshirt thrown overhead
such a practical
makeshift umbrella

dodge the shallow puddles
before plunging
accidentally on purpose of course
into the deeper pools

from my plastered on the corner
perch
i watch you
red sneakers sloshing
across drenched pavement

only a dull
twenty four hours ago
the both of us happened to be
safe and warm

sipping lukewarm coffee
and choking
on the smoke from cigarettes
generic brand
of course

joking, laughing,
even wishing
we could drown ourselves
in a purple, red, lilac
rain
