Nine Inch Nails Survey ~ Comments I Received

This page contains some of the comments I received from my Nine Inch Nails survey included some I wanted to respond to.

will you please make the lyrics to where you can print them.
thanx
Name : twiggy

Well, you shoud be able to print them right? No? I dunno

why can't you print out the nin definitions?
Name : heresy

Well, you should be able to print them out right? No? Maybe not..  Okay, I don't know why some people can't print things, so there's nothing I can really do about that.

I plan to on the next survey

In the "NINterpretations" section, the background text made reading the actual words nearly impossible. The concept as far as interpretations go is an excellent one--I have been subjecting my friends to my own ideas on Reznor's work for years! *grin* * a side note: I consider myself both a skater (because I skateboard) AND a goth; yet you do not allow me to choose both on this survey.
Something to look into...
My sincere regards. This is an excellent page!

This was one of the first survey responses I received and I quickly added a "both" option to that question. Hopefully this didn't throw off the results too much. And I have since fixed the readability problems that were on some of my pages.
Thanks, Rachel, for the positive comments. =)

I thought I'd include the following three comments just cuz I like them.

I would just like to say that I am a HUGE fan of Trent's work. He is one of the most brilliant musicians I have ever listened to. An ideal man who has his ideas in prespective. I think hte reason why people don't like him is because he has his thoughs (or at least his way of thinking) in order, and in the RIGHT order....this either scares people or makes them wonder too much and they don't like things that make them think (they are lazy and comfortable not nowing teh things that he sees) This is a really good page! It really shows what he is really about instead of the "sell out" reputation that he has gotten. I will never know how he got this reputation....anyone who cannot see the passion he puts into his work....someone with that much emotion in his voice when he singscannot be a sell out! But hten again...ignorance is a WIDE spread disease in this place we call "earth". I only have one thing to say to and discribe these people.....Ignorance is truely bliss, but nothing more.

I personally like all the pages with pictures, lyrics, and all that crap, but they get so damn boring and repetative, so i was glad to find your page with REAL nin content. Trent would be proud. i consider myself to be a true NIN fan. i view his work subjectively, as art, not something that will screw my head up, it just make me think more deeply about my self. I am sorta gothic and depressed, but i'm getting over that. NIN has helped me understand things about myself, like why i am so depressed, and for that i will continue to be a loyal fan of trent, as long as his stuff is out there. every thing NIN does, i may not like it at first, but i always listen with an open mind, and in time it grows on me. i have read every interview i could get my hands on to try to understand trent better. i have interpreted his lyrics myself, but how they relate to me instead of trent. in other words, i may not know what TRENT is saying in his songs, but i know what I hear when i listen to them.
I get Nine Inch Nails. it just makes sense.
Name : Darker than Trent

i agree with you that most idiots misunderstand trents thoughts he tries to release in his art. ever since i heard nin 6 yrs ago ive been hooked,he relates to alot of my own personal thoughts and he is one of the few artists that can get under and into my skin to the point of tears/others include, james maynard keenan{tool)and davis of korn. these artists take and will take the music scene to new platues and areas that the every day smiling person would never knew have existed.reznor along with keenan and davis, are truly todays soul searchers as morrison once was. the main thing i like about these bands is thier hidden and deeper lyrics that only the open minded and soul searcher can relate to. even though i cant relate 100 percent to their lyrics, they bring more emotion out of me than almost anything ive ever experienced. the main thing that pisses me off is how stupid people just listen to the surface of these artists lyrics and dont dig any deeper to find the huge treasure of reality waiting for them. just because a song says i wnat to fuck you like an animal, people dont realize how deep and heart aching that song {closer} really is. i really hope reznor releases some new art soon because im getting anxious to see what is going to hit me. as for korn and tool i wish that people would realize how great these bands are. those two bands are probably the most underrated of the decade.thanks for listening to my thoughts,m.young,a true nails fan.

hey...i love your site....and i linked you from my page...hope that is ok! if not please let me know and i will take it off....my page addr is:

if ya wanna check it out.
have a good one!

Sure, I take it as a compliment when people link to me! If anyone has a page, they can link to me if they want and I'll be flattered, but I don't ask for it. I don't link my site to other sites.. I hope people don't have a problem with that. Why? Well it's just so easy to go out and find other nin pages, why should I link to them? Plus I try to keep my site apart from everything..like it's its own entity. I don't want casual surfers to just pass through and not look around. I also don't involve my site in webrings that only would cheapen it. Their only purpose is to increase web traffic, something that I'd love to have, but I'd feel like I'm selling out. Sadly, my site doesn't appear on a few major link lists because I refuse to link to them. But oh well.

i would really like to find out about upcoming tour dates and that is the one thing that you are obviously against. Killer page however. I do believe it is TIME TO SUCK!!!! Fuck off....
Name :

Umm.. I'm not sure if I should feel complimented or insulted. But anyway, I'm not against tour dates. Two reasons why they don't appear on my site- 1. Nine Inch Nails is not on tour. But aside from that, 2. You can find that information on any of the larger NIN sites. Why should I just copy and probably not do as good a job at it? Trying to keep current tour dates on this site is not what I want to be focused on. Other sites have them, if you want them go there.

could u put in a marilyn manson survey. this page is awesome
Name :

I might have questions on Manson in the future. Actually, I probably will. I plan on running survey after survey (until I get tired of it or go insane, which ever comes first). So yeah, there will likely be MM questions.

How can you not have Tori Amos listed in other Bands sections????
And I have 12 Halos.
And I am neither a Skater or Goth, but I am a computer geek who does Quality Assurance.
Name :

To be honest, I've never listened to Tori Amos. Maybe I'm missing out. I dunno. Oh yeah, my survey first started out with an option of 7-11 halos..I neglected to figure Closure into that, so I changed it to 7-12. No big difference though.

the bio link didn't work, which is too bad! the opening graphics need work, but other than that I thought it was pretty good.
Name :

The bio didn't work? Strange, it should have. But don't worry, you didn't miss much! hehe, I've heard my bio page is ugly. Well I included a pic of Trent on it, now maybe it doesn't suck as much! Actually, it's just a simple little page stating some info on Trent straight from the NIN FAQ. The opening graphics must be referring to my intro page that many people pass through first. Well I mostly made it to kind of get people into the state of mind I'm in. Most pages just have that little "Welcome to my site, press here to enter" type page. I just decided to make mine a little more informative. But yeah, it lacks graphics and stuff. Well I've since added a pair of NIN graphics at the top, maybe that'll help.

As the true nin-fan that I am. All I can say is that you´ve got the point right about Trent and his music. I have to say that I think almost exactly like you about everything you´ve written in this page. I think It´s a very good page, different from the usual boring pic,midi,bootleg-page. The reason that I didn´t give you an A+ is that the page is too small.(I want more) But I know the page is under constrution so next time I drop in and see that you have even more facts and opinions about Reznor I´ll give you that A+. I thought that I was the only one who looked at nine inch nails as you describes the band, for a while. It´s fun to know that there's more people who apprichiates nin in the right way. And it was your homepage that told me. So in that case you deserve A+.
You´ll have to excuse my spelling. I live in Sweden. So if some words are spelled wrong, It´s because of that.
Ps: In case you noticed. I don´t have any favorite halo. They´re all as good as eachother. I find something special in every song. I think a true nin-fan should think like that....ds. Name : Michael.R

Thanks for all the positive comments Michael, I appreciate it. My site is young and it's ever-growing, so as time goes by it'll get larger and larger. Oh yeah, and I know what you mean about the albums. They are all great and also each are unique. I like them all for different reasons. Personally, I do tend to lean toward TDS as my favorite album though. But don't ever make me pick a favorite song!

I primarily listen to old punk, new wave, industial, new romantic, and some older alternative(from the 80's) I decided to listen to NiN because of his work with Adam Ant, Pigface, Ministry, and David Bowie. While I like your page, you should change the survey, to let people put in some of thier own favorite type of music.
Jonathan O'Donnell

This was my first survey and looking back, I would've done some things differently. So look for improvements in the coming surveys.

Art is the medium of the soul to express truth...I agree to keep an open mind...My truths may not be yours but, they are truths just the same...Trent lets out his scars for the world to see...Oh for that grand opportunity... CHARON ...
Name : CHARON

Some damn good comments.

i liked the page a lot but i fall under many different catagories. like wether im a skater or goth. niether im just me. i like the the smashing pumpkins and nin thay are my all time favorite bands. i just felt i would clear that up....im not being rude!! p.s awesome page
Name : melahdori

Ok...I really liked your site...I love Trent Reznor. Anyway..the only thing I didnt like about the site was, in the intro about "i dont dress in black and complain all time" or something like that. Anyway, goths, at least the ones I know, arent depressed, they are happy people, some of them dont smile alot, but that is because they dont particularly fell like it. That doesnt make them "depressed". Me, myself, I guess Im "goth" but I really dont like labels, because, Im into so many different things, although I have the general goth look and attitude...my roots are with skaters though....I guess I can just be described as "Lesley".
Lesley
p.s. I noticed you like Rage. If you ever get to see them in concert..go!!!! They RULE in concert. I saw them on Friday the 13th awhile back...they were sooo intense

I get a lot of comments about goths and I just wanna say that I don't stereotype them. I was just saying that I'm not a stereotypical goth myself. Well actually, I'm not goth at all. And I also agree with Lesley; I hate labels, people don't fall into nice little categories. But still, many people consider themselves either "goth" or "skater" or whatever.. it's just a general style or outlook.
And also..I had the chance to see Rage this past summer, but I was on vacation the day of the concert!! And there was a guy trying to sell me tickets and everything, but I couldn't go! That sucked..

Damn, could you be a little more anal?! Asking people to grade a NIN site ... I don't know about that.
Name : Ayn

uhh, thanks for your opinion, Ayn. I work very hard on this site and put in a lot of my time into it, and I get nothing for it. I would like to at least know what people think of my efforts. It's nothing that I take too seriousy, of course. But when people say that it could be better, it drives me to make it better. And when peope say that it's really good, I am flattered to see my work paying off. If I got no responses at all, I'd probably lose interest in it all together...no more site. Anal? Did you even see my site? I guess not. (just because you look does not mean that you "see")

If there is a NIN mailing list some where...I'd like to be on it.
Name : Mersh

The guy over at Above The Trees has a pretty cool mailing list. Write to xott@nwlink.com for info on that.

I'm including the following info sent on Jimmy Wooley because I know little about him and my site has no mention of him.

Jimmy Wooley is my cousin. As you know he was the keyboardist on the NIN "Downward Spiral" CD. He was a major contributor to Trent's fame...it was his band to begin with...different name ofcourse. However, he never gets any recognition for his work...why is that? I know he was replaced, but if it wasn't for him jumping in the mud at Woodstock, would anyone really have taken NIN seriously? I'd like it if you could include some info about my Jimmy. I can start you off with two little known facts. He started out wanting to become an actor and in fact he was in the movie "Uncle Buck"...he was only in one scene though. It was the party scene...he was wearing the cowboy hat! Another little known fact is that before the band met Reznor, they were on America's Funniest Home Videos. They were putting on a concert in a local bar and the singer at the time jumped on top of a speaker to start a song off...the speaker collapsed though and he fell...obviously!!
It was pretty funny, but needless to say, they didn't win the money!
Name : t_jamison@hotmail.com

Honestly, I don't have much knowledge on any members of the live band or other contributors to Nine Inch Nails. I haven't really searched for much or learned much about them. I appreciate any info sent to me on them, and I'll include it in my site if it fits anywhere. But being a site focused on interpreting Trent's lyrics, it doesn't leave too much room for info on other contributors to NIN. Maybe as this site expands, I'll start adding stuff about them, because they also deserve acknowledgement.

Actually , I've been shopping for a sampler and was looking for a resource possibly showing what is being used on a professional level.
Now I've been sidetracked by all these NIN sites , most of which seem to state they know exactly what Reznors intentions are with his music . I personally feel only he can know what was going on inside his head while composing (decomposing?) . NIN is definitely an inspiration , but to say we understand his pain is bullshit , right ?
Anyway , back to the search for the perfect sampler .....
Name : IMPIOUS

If you wanna know what equipment Trent uses, consult the NIN FAQ (It's out there, if ya search for it). But as for the subsequent comments, it is true that the only person who can truely know what the songs are about is Trent Reznor. But are we not allowed to speculate? My site contains two types of interpretations- Those that try to get inside Trent's head, and those that relate what a NIN song means to them. I wouldn't criticize either type. Sometimes I get comments like "That song doesn't mean Trent was abused, he was never abused." Maybe that's not what the song means to Trent, but that is what it means to that individual and that interpretation is just as valid as any other.
"To say that we understand his pain is bullshit"? One question. What perfect world do you come from? Because I hope to find it some day..

Check out the debate over the topic of whether one should search for meaning in Trent's songs..

i just want to clear up that i have been listening to pre skinny puppy (cv, and kraftwerks) the only reason that i mention that is becuase i consider trent a pioneer like nivek ogre and richard h kirk. I also want to say nine inch nails is not just one person. even though trent is a genius and writes some of the best music and lyrics around you need to give "props" to flood, clouser, and vrenna for assisting trent. That is all ive got to say from atop the soap box thanks, godhate
Name : godhate

I know this site makes it seem like all things NIN are 100% Reznor, and I know this is not the case. I'm sort of assuming that people know that other people aide Reznor in his creation. No one can make an album by themselves, and Trent does get help. But Trent does write all the lyrics, composes the music, and has final say over all aspects of his albums. The final product is Trent's art.
Like I said before, I don't have too much info on members of the live band or those who helped him produce his albums. Maybe in the future, I'll add stuff on them too, but the site is a ton of work as it is. They do deserve credit though.

I, personally , think you have an original idea here. Although I have seen another page with "ninterpretations" before, I find it's this site that I'm more drawn to. I also love NIN, (although it isn't my absolute FAVOURITE group...) Marilyn Manson, and just about all the bands you listen to. I think you should also provide interpretations for Marilyn Manson, because his songs also carry a deep meaning within them.
Thanks.

Name : "Sonic"

Once in awhile, I'll see a site that has some ninterpretations, but I like to think that mine is the most current and updated. As for Marilyn Manson, it is true, his songs have a lot of meaning to them and can be interpreted in a variety of ways. I've seen two great MM sites that partly inspired this one. One is called Sin's Shrine of Disruption and the other is Marilyn Manson: Songs of Golgatha. These two are excellent sites and I highly recommend them to any Manson fan.

And I got many many comments from people looking for pics, so I added a pic section..

i think you should have NIN pics for people to download. And i also think you should put NIN waves in, other than that... that's it.

It's a preetty good site. Althought I think I just like it because it is about nine inch nails. I'm just got in this so I'm gonna go look for pictures.

Great site man i really can not complain about it at all. One thing you should consider doing is adding some pictures of Trent to this page then it would be the best page for NIN that I Have ever seen.
Name :

Hehe, after that last one, how can I not have a pic section?

Some people wrote looking for tabs..

I think you should find tablitures for songs then you will get more people coming to your site, thats what i was looking for- tabs.
Name :

Get some Keyboard tabs. That waould kick ass man!
Name : Tin Omen11@aol.com

I regret to say that I won't have any tabs here at this site in the near future. Sadly, I myself am not musically inclined and tabs don't really mean anything to me. Maybe in the distant future, my site will have grown large enough to include them, but there are other things I'd rather add right now.

And finally, I'd just like to conclude this page by listing some comments by people who really liked my site.

your site was real...it put real peoples thoughts and gave me some time to tell other nin fans my ideas about trent...im not goth or im not really that freaky....im pretty much grunge for the most part....but that doesn't mean that i can't put in one of nin's cd and listen to thier music and understand it...

so far this has been one of the better sites iv'e visited. i like the human element youv'e given it. keep up the good work. i'll come back when / if you up date your site.
p.s. the quote by Katherine Johnson made me cry inside, thank you

i really liked your site. Not many people take the time to actually look at the stuff thant Mr.Reznor is writting. The reason why i liked you site is that you have a wide range of stuff to lok at that is quite original
Good job! ][\][ ][ ][/][ kicks ass!!!

Thanx for just pissing all over the sensationalism about NIN with this site.

I just wanted to say that this is the best NIN page that I've ever seen. You're ideas for this type of page are clever and intelligent.
I do feel that there is just a bunch of crap on the internet about NIN. Most of it is informitive but lacks intelligence. I love your Idea about song interpretations. I had a chance to interpret Mr. Self-Destruct in my English class this semester and found that this guy (Trent) is brilliant.
Just my thoughts,
Russ O.
P.S. Your site has found a new home in my favorite places file.

i really like your page. u should b proud of & i like how u put the meanings of the songs.
Name : Zillah

Hello I'm just checking out all the local NIN pages and so far this is one of the best. None of the others have the meanings to Reznor's dark but beautiful songs. I just want to thank you for seeing Reznor as a person and not just someone who makes good music.
Name : Rob De Bretan

this site is really cool. It is nice to know that the over done internet still has cool sites. I agree with all your ideas and feelings of Trent Reznor.

I thought that your NIN page was the best that I have seem so far in the net, I think that you are doing exactly what Mr Reznor himself wants, not in a negative way though, I think that your insights are respectful and well thought out. It is nice to see someone that is more intrested in Reznor's mind rather than his body. thanks sb
