1. neither desires, has nor enjoys close relationships. 2. has little, if any, interest in having sex with another person. 3. almost always chooses solitary activities. 4. takes pleasure in few, if any, activities. 5. shows little to no emotion. 1-3. If one doesn't need friends, relationships and sex. How exactly is the lack of a NEED a problem ? (Somehow to me it seems more like a benefit than a problem as there is no need to worry about being able to fulfilling those needs) 4. Being unable to get pleasure from any activity might be a problem, but how is a small number of pleasureable activities a problem ? (Doesn't that just mean that you are able to concentrate you time and money more effectively to those few activities you actually do enjoy) 5. How exactly is being able to control one's emotions and restrain oneself a problem ? |

| To see why it's a disorder you must see it from an unbiased view. If you have Schizoid, and believe you're fine (which lots do) then these symptoms wouldn't be a problem, but just a way of life. However, defining a disorder is sketchy, and the symptoms are compared to "normal" people. If having it doesn't bother you, then don't let the word disorder get to you :) | |

So schizoid people don't see the problem with the symptoms because they are schizoid ? hmm... So that means my unablity to see a problem with the symptoms combined with the fact that they seem to apply to me kind of confirms the diagnosis then ? And what is the problem from such unbiased/nonschizoid perspective then ? |

| Because psychiatrists need some anally-regurgitated trash to sell to pay the bills and go on luxurious vacations without contributing to society. If their customers and sponsors are illiterate enough to buy garbage then so be it. | |

answering the thread's question... schizoid is a disorder becaus it differs of a so-called standar or normal person (whose existance i seriously doubt). 1-5. Because society doesnt like free thinkers, thats how schizoids are a problem to it. |

I do not know about disorders, but some of what you have written can be a symptoms of depression. Avoiding people and less enjoy from normally enjoyable activities are its symptoms. I say about what I have read about mild or soft depression. Anyway - I do not know, I am just a plain internet user. |

You guys are hysterically funny and I love it. I just figured out from reading and testing that I have SPD, which in a weird way makes me feel 'normal', because now everything is beginning to make sense. And, apparently, I'm not alone, dammit ;) |

| I just _scored_ very high in schizoid, kind of proud of that at the moment. Like pj1, I feel "normal" too, because everything somewhat falls in place. Mostly I just want to say, that disorder and problem are not synonyms... and isn't it quite obvious why lack of sexual desire can be thought as a problem? | |

| There can be a whole range of schizoid characteristics. there are overt schizoids who you can tell are schizoid because they seem unemotional, then there are covert schizoid who can seem really interesting and cool and funny, but its all a mask... there just faking it.. do a google search for overt covert schizoid. | |
