I try to plan out conversations with people I know I'm going to meet in my head. It can actually be helpful in rigid non social encounters like job interviews. If you can think of what they will be looking for you can use it to plan ahead how to make yourself look like an asset to their company. Other times I have been thinking about something that happened and catch myself moving my head, lips, and body as if I'm physically reliving the event I'm thinking about. It can get weird looks too so I try not to lose myself to my imagination. I think of it like an inner and outer self. My outer self is my physical body and my inner self is my focus....much akin to a different set of eyeballs that controls the outer self. When the inner self is focused on something non physical it can completely forget about the outer self. This can lead to moments of blank stares or physical movements that correlate with what the inner self is focused on. It seems like the inner and outer self of other people are more "glued" together. |

Shroud, that's exactly what happens with me... physical manifestation of what's happening inside my imagination. Then, it almost like the physical movement (in my face for instance) "wakes up" my inner self and says "Hey stop that! I'm still here!". Then I feel slightly embarrassed that someone in the next car over might have seen me making funny faces. That's my stopping point usually. Someone a few pages back said they get confused sometimes as to which conversations with people were real and which were imagined. I think that's a bad memory issue. It happened to me twice in the last 4 years, where I couldn't remember if I had actually said certain things to my husband in a conversation from 2 days prior. Came to find out it was a real conversation that we had. Mostly though, that only happens with my dreams. Sometimes I think I dreamed something that was real or vice versa and realized I had it backwards. |
