| That sounds very destructive, can't you be happy without "knowing" that people like us will be punished? Just by living your own life to the fullest? | |

Weird, why is it that the "medical" students majoring in psychology are always the most idiotic breed of people involved in "medicine"? One reputable scientist said "Psychology is for those too smart for religion but too dumb for science" but i'm thinking some people (like uncertain) are even below that level. "and buddism is not at fault of a buddist's wrong doing." Difference is, people in authority who indoctrinate the public with Christianity and Islam both later exploit those same retards to get their ways. No genocides have ever been committed in the name of Buddhism, and nobody (to the best of my knowledge) has been executed or persecuted for refusing to convert to Buddhism. Buddhism has no central institution, no popes and no deity. Its teachings are direct and straightforward, without all that abstract, vague bulls--- in Christianity/Islam where it can be interpreted to mean whatever you want it to mean and do what you please to people. No, hell no. |

I dont mean to offend,or do I? I can pick out other peoples sensitivities as if they were my own. The good stuff i know about this particular religion is that foremost it is supposed to be peacefull. Where people have said that it degrades women can be offset with a lot of young British Muslim woman that have grown up in this country being able to decide themselves if they want to wear the scarf(??)to cover their hair and they chose to do it based not only on religion but because its kind of a fashion statement and its what makes them unique. They are very intelligent and very open minded and i think the religion does give a lot of respect to woman, certainly if the woman has respect for herself. There is a large majority of Muslims in certain towns in Britain that have recently become very vocal in ousting the extremists of their faith and local government etc have a great respect for this. Just thought I would add that x |

Religion is a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs. Hip, i agree about buddhism-no genocides committed in the name of the religion. Buddhism seems to be a neutral religion. Just out of curiosity, can you share some info about what Buddhism has got to say about the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe? like who governs the universe, who sets the rules etc? |

It varies. Buddhism is more of a "down to earth" religion, and doesnt extend too far off the map. Buddhists believe life and the universe consist of a series of paradoxical "rebirths" or cycles. That every negative move (as minor as stepping on a bug) paves the way for karma to cause evil, stress and suffering. They believe the purpose is to eliminate the metaphysical seeds of evil and negativity to achieve nirvana (heaven, except on earth, not in the sky). And to achieve this, Buddha has written down major commandments, basic s--- like "Dont murder, dont rape, dont steal, dont lie, dont manipulate" etc. You can find them on the net. So basically, Buddhism doesnt clearly explain the origin of life. They only believe that karma and metaphysical forces govern the universe, and that one must respect nature and karma to achieve the most out of their lives and pave the way for the impending utopia where there is no crime or stress. This is why most people dont consider Buddhism a religion, but a distinct style of life. |

| The Arabians in the Middle East have a really bad habit of marrying their first and second cousins. Many marry their first cousins in arranged marriages to this day. In the past, this was done to help conserve resources and contribute to the clan's support and defense. Consanguinity (marriage between people that are bleed relatives) has been practiced in the Arabian Middle East for over a hundred and twenty generations, even before the introduction of IS LAMEd in the seventh century," and "It is estimated that over sixty percent percent of Saudis marry first or second cousins, which is the highest in the world. However, the numbers are still staggering in Iraq (fifty eight percent), Kuwait (fifty five percent), Jordan (fifty percent percent), the Emirates (forty eight percent) and Gaza with West Bank (seventy two percent)." That's what I mean by inbred by the way. | |

Some thing I don't get with Buddhism is, how do they explain the growth of the worlds population? For it to be a balance there shouldn't be more people getting born than people dying. Well, or reborn. And Buddhists seek nirvana and enlightenment, if every human achieved that goal that Buddhism sets for them, wouldn't it cause a major imbalance? |

"Some thing I don't get with Buddhism is, how do they explain the growth of the worlds population? For it to be a balance there shouldn't be more people getting born than people dying. Well, or reborn." Everything has a reason for happening. To set a precedent for further advancement and evolution, phenomena operate in cycles. They grow and grow, reach the peak (extreme) and then drop. It has acquired much input at this point and it proceeds to the next cycle. Everything operates in cycle, large scale and small scale. Look at how hip-hop grew in popularity, hit a peak at one point and now is dropping because frankly it is getting really repetitive and old, so teens are moving onto better music. And all this had a major influence on culture and society, and people will write about the trends in the future. The reason overpopulation happened was the consequence of the agricultural and industrial revolutions, which allowed mass-production of food and careers. But now we are moving onto the information age and out of the industrial age, and now birth rates are dropping because more people are interested in knowledge and less into minimal existence (food and f---ing). Without the previous ages and revolutions (and all their benefits and consequences) there wouldnt be an information age and the future ages to come. Overpopulation is temporary, and again, people in the future will be writing about how we used to be clueless f---ing apes that considered breeding, roof and food "luxuries". Without an extreme happening, humanity wont have history to learn from. "And Buddhists seek nirvana and enlightenment, if every human achieved that goal that Buddhism sets for them, wouldn't it cause a major imbalance?" Yeah, in a way. But in theory, an advanced civilization would have no crime or overpopulation because everyone is hyperintelligent and educated, so there wouldnt be a need for wars because we think more and feel less. And also, the modern concept of "nirvana" has changed a lot from the 15th century version. i.e the cyberpunk "Matrix" philosophy of everyone being connected to Virtual Reality where they create their own world and reality, where years spent there are equivalent to seconds in the real, physical world. And all of them are happy because every random lowlife for once will be able to be a World dictator and do whatever they want/f--- as many women as they want, and the globe is finally free from humanity/civilization forever. |

I don't understand reincarnation and how it is said to be affected by karma. If the tiny bug that you kill will be reborn then how is ending that physical manifestation of that spirit a negative thing for a soul to bear? We consume what was once living plant and animal tissue to survive. Wouldn't true nirvana and connection with the cycle lead a person to starve themselves to death? That would let metric tons worth of plant and animal tissue keep on living while also feeding bacteria. I also have to wonder how many negative acts that it would take per soul that would create the type of existence that commercially produced chickens experience on a daily basis. What great karmic event in history would cause so many reborn souls to be treated so unnaturally and poorly? Are we the karmic perpetrators for putting the chickens in the cages, or are we punishing the past misdeeds of their souls? Isn't it still a negative act? |

Its not the bug per se, its the negative impulse of wanting to take life away, the same impulse behind the majority of f---ed up, sadistic s--- perpetrated by mankind for so goddamn long. So they believe if they can gradually eliminate the impulse, that they can improve the quality of life. Yeah, when you eat food you are eating what used to be something living, but then you s--- in the dirt and fertilize more plants, which will feed another animal which will give birth to another who will grow from that same plant that came from your s---. So no, it isnt wrong to kill for food. Its wrong to unnecessarily torture and mutilate your prey. And your other paragraph is labyrinthic and confusing. Rephrase? |

The labyrinth was about commercially produced chickens. In some places there are a ridiculous amount of them that only have enough room in each cage so that the chicken has a higher chance of living long enough to grow to a size where their meat can be sold for as high a price as possible. I was asking if these living conditions for millions of chickens is due to a past event where millions of people did something to really upset their karma, or whether we (the people who consume the chickens and perpetuate their squalid living conditions) are affecting our own karma negatively by putting these chickens in such unnatural and poor living conditions? Or could it be both? My understanding of karma and reincarnation is that positive and negative karma affect spirit placement during the reincarnation process. |
