Hi All! I've read that assertion training is likely to be very helpful for people with this condition (i.e. us!). I'm wondering what people's experiences of assertion training have been like? Or perhaps you just have some thoughts about this, or want to ask questions? I've only just taken the test myself, though knew I may have a lack of assertion for years.. I joined an assertion skills group, but used to arrive late and then would be too embarrassed to go in late.. ha! My psychologist gave me "pack" to work through, and I've been trying with that on my own, little by little. Seems an odd way of doing it though - without feed back! I might join a group in the autumn, when local evening classes start running again. |

| I've never gone through assertion training, I dont even know what it is, I have never even gone to a psychologist. But it sounds like it's helping you, good luck | |

Hi, What has worked for me has been getting in touch with myself. Once I understand my feelings and my needs, then I am clearer about what I want from others, or from myself. The assertion training helps us to ask of others, but knowing what you're really feeling and needing is the key to any requests we make of others. PF |

Yep. So, it means asking them to stop something they are doing - that's the "asking of others" that I was talking about. I just read what why wrote in my earlier post and it was pretty hard to understand! Sorry about taht Hip. |

Oh, I get it now. But the focus should be on teaching the members to learn not to give in the demands of others first. In other words, learn to make others stop asking of you before you start asking of others. If you're working a low job, don't be overly obedient to your boss. You are there to work but you aren't under obligation to stretch beyond your comfort zone to please your obese doucheturd of a boss who's lucky he can add and subtract without s---ting brown skidmarks all over the chair. If you're too obedient, he'll give you the s---tiest side-jobs because he knows you dont have the self-respect to say no. |

Heh, no. This girl from the community college told me about her experience, so I thought it would be valuable to know. I did always have problems with a manager when I started this job in the beginning though. Nothing to do with not working hard enough or him wanting me to be his little b----. He just loved to act like a fag because he had 12-hour shifts (support managers work 12, assistant managers work 10) and needed to project his misery onto everyone else. |
