Under 18 Borderline diagnosis

	Most doctors and psychiatrists are discouraged from diagnosing any personality disorders, including Borderline, to those who are under 18, the reason for this being that the individual's personality isn't filled developed. However, if the symptoms persist, continuously, for at least a year prior, then diagnosis would carry as normal. I myself am almost 17 and suspect myself to have borderline, with the majority of my symptoms present for around six to eight months. My friends urge me to get checked out, but I'm 95% I'll get turned away (which I understand, and kinda agree with). So here's my question; do I go and get tests done and hope for the best, or am I right here? Thanks for any replies, greatly appreciated!

	i think u should just get a check-up then. or maybe u should do a little research first, on whether its alright for u to go there before u turn 18.

	I feel the same way as you. I am a 17 year old female, about to be 18 in a month. When I was 12-13, I was self mutilating myself. And I have every symptom of BPD. I haven't seen a psychiatrist yet about it, but I think I need to. I currently don't self mutilate anymore, but I've had reoccuring suicidal thoughts for years, and immense fear of rejection, and I am extrememly sensitive and paranoid. I used to be a heavy hard drug user, and I go through phases alot... Hmm.

	Yeah, i did some research, and the symptoms *must* be present for 12+ months else you cannot be diagnosed. Well i'm no worse off than before, i guess.

	how can you get tests done if nobody believes you? my mother just thinks i'm being overly emotional, or that i am acting out for attention. i think there is something seriously wrong with me. i think i have this borderline personality disorder; i think i have had it for the past four years. i am almost 17, and i'm quite sure that if things were going to change from when i was 13, it would have happened already. so where do i go for help?

	I am almost 17 to and my mom says I have this. Apparently i have been showing symptoms for as long as since i was 5 or 6. Im not sure if i do have it but it would explain alot of stuff like how i get so mad sometimes and freak out for no reason or why i got into hard drugs or why i worry so much about people hating me or leaving me. idn im worried about how il be able to deal with this in the future.
