I guess I just need to confront my social difficulties, because I can't let it go on forever. I used to think I'd get better with time, but it's not working out that way. But what I don't know is how to find a good psychologist, someone who can actually help me. Honestly I don't know the first step to take.

It will take a lot for me to get the nerve to sit down and confess my problems to someone and try to work though it. So it's really important that I find someone who understands social anxiety and has had success helping people overcome it. I get discouraged easily and can't see myself going from one psychologist to the next trying to find something that works. It's too hard for me. Is there at least some way to find out if someone specializes in treating social anxiety?

I understand that dilemma. I've had some luck finding psychologists specializing in different areas by trying a variety of Google searches. It's hit-or-miss, though. I'm not aware of a free review site, but there are some pay ones, including Angie's List. Might be worth the cost. Otherwise there is word of mouth, or as a last resort the Yellow Pages. It would be nice if some other people could share how they found their psychologist.

do you see a family doctor? if so, tell him/her about your problems and depending on the severity, they'll refer you to one based on your problems. i've had to do that before.
