Does anyone have any experience with this? I've been dealing with social anxiety my whole life, and I'm considering group therapy. But given the nature of my problem, it's hard to convince myself to actually go and talk about my problems to a group of people. I'd just like to know if anyone else has done group therapy and what the experience was like...

Yes I have and I recommend it really highly. Helped me so much. My therapy group was a mindfulness/meditation based group but I think most of them are cognitive therapy groups; anyway they basically work the same way according to the research of the people whose group I attended. You only talk about what you're comfortable talking about, at least in my experience.

Before the group I was having trouble picking up the phone and calling my best friends and now I can do it without thinking twice...

thanks erinro. your answer is very reassuring. i've been afraid of going to any kind of therapy for a looong time - but after reading that post, group therapy doesn't seem so daunting :)

You're very welcome, mariana. Good luck!

The other thing is, the people in the group were all super nice, and seemed totally "normal" if a little quiet which made me think that perhaps I too do a good job of hiding anxiety...
