Therapists arent doctors. Your parents probably think they wont help your problem because a diagnosis will just put a label on it. Only you can help yourself. Get outside and do something, get a hobby and share your interests with others. Make some friends. If you are young then you got plenty of time. Its not too late, just put some damn effort once in a while. |

To Mar, If you're still in school, you have a great advantage over those of us who are not: free counseling! Talk to your school counselor. They may not be the best, but at least they may be able to point you in the right direction. ________________ Tim Arends is the maintainer of the Internet Shyness FAQ, online for over 10 years: [no urls] |

I actually just took the test too so it's not like my answer here is going to come from experience or anything but I recommend finding a good therapist, but be picky. I've had a few different therapists and I liked some and hated others but you just need to talk to other people, shop around and such. Also, and I'm not sure if maybe I just had an isolated incident but, I would avoid going through a medical company that's funded by a church. When I went to see a therapist at "Catholic Family Medicine" he called me a selfish, manipulative child and talked to my parents about teaching them how to better "deal with me". I left. Good luck and if any doctor diagnoses you and wants to give you medicine you should research it first and talk with your doctor about it and the side affects and everything before agreeing. Some meds boost your self esteem but also make you gain weight, which is not really helpful. To Mar: Maybe you should sit down with your parents and have a serious discussion about what's best for you. You might actually need somebody to talk to and possibly even some medication if you have a chemical imbalance and Tom Cruz isn't going to save you. If you research mental illnesses and medications and come prepared and act calm then it's very possible your parents will listen. Parents like kids who are proactive and confident about what they want. |

and just remember that this whole test wasn't about diagnosing anything. Just check it out. Maybe your problems aren't as big as you think. Or maybe that do :) In both cases it is better to see a doc |

Yeah "wallowing in pity and watching yourself go to hell" is basically what I'm doing too, although I don't recommend it, but really there's no other real option for me at this point. One thing: You should be careful of ANY therapists, INCLUDING school counselors. They can do wonderful things for you BUT they often make things much, much worse as well. Be sure you get to know and trust your therapist/counselor a little before you open up to them, else you might get hurt. |

Can't give you advice here, no matter what I say, it will just screw you over. The best action varies from person to person. When we all die, I'll host a party. |
