Antisocial personality is not often recognized by the person who has it. Loved ones are usually the ones to notice. Please share your comments on this issue. This forum was created as a place to talk about antisocial and sociopathic behavior.

Can some one provide insight on the antisocio personality disorder. I think my husband has it and I don't know what to do. Like does he know what he is doing all the time is there any reasoning to his actions?

i know a psychopath
they act somewhat odd
they tend to be very energetic
do childlike things like to play with objects when they are intoxicated tend to
become even more aggresive , they depend on other people for stuff never giving back unless it is small in value they would give back, constant agitation ,talking style that is different, abnormal
ex: instead of saying "i have a suggestion they would say "i have a subjection" they lie a lot even for no reason , tend to avoid personal questions only answering with a word or two. very odd people indeed

I am fairly certain my wife is APD. For one thing, a very respect Dr. here in our area has classified her as such and her behaviors are well in line with what I've read.

I've also read that the best thing I can do, is leave. Period. But, there is a problem, three of them to be exact.
On top of our small children, I do dearly love this woman. Despite the absolute destruction she can cause when she's raging, I still feel "drawn" to her. My "love" is about doing for her, so I'm pretty clear that I'm getting used, on a regular basis.

Anyway, I can't tell if she really believes I'm the one with a problem, or if it's just another lie she's telling herself (and others) to tear me down.

I'm looking for help. Somewhere, in this world, there must be someone who can at least help her admit she's the one with a problem, and can help the "rage" and "destruction" and "lies" lesson, some.
(And I know, treatment seldom works with these folks, but, I've got to try!)

Thanks much.

My daughter is 18 1/2 years old. We have had problems with her for a long time. We are told that she might have APD. We do not know how to help her. Any advice?

I believe ASPD is usually defined by behaviors such as repeatedly breaking the law, impulsive behavior, etc, so you can have some of the traits without having ASPD. Psychopathy is not officially recognized by the DSM-IV, but is seen by many forensic psychologists as less defined by behavioral traits, such as criminal and antisocial acts, and more by personality traits, such as callous disregard for the rights of others, enjoying manipulating others, etc. The issue I've seen come up is that the behavior must not be a result of substance abuse, although the ASPD/psychopath may have secondary substance abuse issues. Also to qualify for ASPD, conduct disorder must be diagnosed before age 15. I hope that helps a little :)

I'm antisocial. But that doesn't mean i can't love. it's kind of twisted, but it can work out. I was happy with it for a while, and i do feel above other people, but the Borderline Personality part of me feels like crap. i want to feel happy, not smug, about myself. if you have any recommended sites or books for me, i'd greatly appreciate it. i'm pretty sure though, that whatever i do, i'll always be this nasty monster. i wouldd at least like to learn how to live with it.
