Itzbeen Review - Handy Baby Gadget!
Itzbeen Baby Care Timer Review
I don't have too many baby gadgets. But the Itzbeen, selling on Amazon for ~$25 (eligible for free shipping as of this writing) has proven to be a real life-saver for my wife and me.
The Itzbeen answers the nagging question: how long has it been since baby has been fed? Or was changed? I was initially skeptical as to whether a gadget that tracks these things is really needed. But after bringing baby home from the hospital, I quickly realized you often have no idea when he was last fed. Was it two hours ago? Three? More? Particularly in the middle of the night, trust me, you won't be able to rely on your memory alone.
Product Description: The Itzbeen is about the size of a large, chubby cellphone and weighs just a few ounces. It has four timers: last diaper change, last feeding, sleep, and custom. Hit the button and the digital display to its left resets to zero and counts up. Later you'll be able to check how long it has been since your baby was last-changed/fed/etc. The Itzbeen also has an LED flashlight--not very bright, but enough to check on baby in the dark. The timers have a backlight for night-time. There is a clip on the back so you can wear your Itzbeen. It also has a clock, alarm settings, a breast-feeding reminder (see Itzbeen Cons below), and a button lock. Takes three double-A batteries.
Itzbeen Pros and Cons plus my final comments after the jump.
Itzbeen Pros: it's super-handy, conveniently-sized, and light-weight. The design is straight-forward and intuitive. You can set alarms to go off after a certain time has passed on any of the timers (alarm can be set to sound plus blinking light, or blinking light only). Our Itzbeen has gotten a lot of use, which is the best measure of how good the product is.
Itzbeen Cons: The clock and alarm settings are lost when changing batteries, which is a bit annoying. The breast-feeding reminder is a switch that does nothing, except reminds you which side you last nursed on. This was pretty useless--the switch gets knocked out of position easily. My only other complaint is that I'd like the unit to be a bit thinner.
Overall my wife and I have found the Itzbeen to be a useful product that we rely on day-to-day to track baby care. I would also recommend it as a great gift idea. Any other Itzbeen users out there? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Our baby is 3 months old, and my husband and I rely on this timer! Its by far been the most useful thing we've gotten since she was born. The nightlight is great for changing diapers in the middle of the night (I clip it to the collar of my nightgown for hands free usage)or if the baby wakes up in the middle of the night and you don't remember, or are too sleep deprived to know when she was last fed. I buy it as a shower gift for everyone now :)
Never thought to use the nightlight like that, but what a great idea.
I use this all day everyday and LOVE it!
