Baby Movement Sensor to Prevent SIDS

I've read that SIDS will strike one out of every 2,000 babies who sleep on their backs (and it used to be twice as many before back-sleeping was recommended). SIDS is probably most parents' greatest fear. For this reason, my wife and I are looking at baby room monitors that include a movement sensor.

The one we're considering buying is called AngelCare by Graco. The included sensor is sensitive enough to detect breathing, and if nothing is detected for a certain length of time an alarm will go off. It's probably unnecessary, but the peace of mind is worth it, and the product is not prohibitively expensive. I'll post again with an update on this!

I got the original version when I brought home my son. He was only 5lbs so the monitor didn't pick up his breathing a lot, but once he gained a little weight, it worked perfectly. I think the alarm actually woke him up several times when he stopped breathing, and woke me up to check on him. Definitely a must have for every mom!

we have it and it is quite amazing - my baby has had apnea episodes when he was 1st born he's 10 weeks (today!) He has a hospital grade monitor that we use now but as soon as he's off we r finally going to start using it. The angel care goes off after 20 seconds of no movement I read that there are some false alarms but hey better save then sorry. There's even a tick for every heart beat!
